Think about how you can help the planet at a variety of events this year at the Atlanta Science Festival. We’ll have events about food sustainability, water conservation, recycling and more, taking place March 10-25.

Come hear local author (and 8th grader!) Alex Huynh talk about her book From Tears to the Sea and how water conservation inspired her art! Learn more about water conservation and make art with us at the accompanying collage workshop!

Insect Bingo Scavenger Hunt | March 18th 10:30 AM
Presented by WunderGrubs
Join WunderGrubs to explore the super powers of bugs! We’ll start our insect exploration with a bingo scavenger hunt and then tour our mealworm vertical farm in Midtown near Piedmont Park on the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail. You’ll hear all about how mealworms can be used to help solve many of today’s environmental problems as a food, feed, and fertilizer, plus so much more! Bonus: buggy treats for you to taste!

Water, the Source of Civilizations | March 11th 2:00 PM
Presented by Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University
What can works of art tell us about a culture’s relationship to water? Civilizations throughout time and across the globe have responded in different ways to the excess or scarcity of this most important and precious of molecules. Enjoy a guided tour of the collections of Emory’s Michael C. Carlos Museum, engaging with works of art that relate directly to water in daily life, religious ritual, and more.

Southside River Rendezvous | March 18th 9:00 AM

Meet us for the Southside River Rendezvous to explore Atlanta’s three rivers – the Chattahoochee, the Flint, and the South River! You’ll discover some of the Southside’s hidden freshwater features, learn how to collect water samples and watch scientists perform water quality testing! Southside River Rendezvous is part of an on-going effort to collect water quality data, increase awareness and protection of Atlanta’s three rivers.
Taking Out the Trash | March 11th 10:00 AM
Presented by Groundwork Atlanta, West Atlanta Watershed Alliance, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper
Explore the efforts underway in the Proctor Creek watershed to reduce the volume of trash entering the creek and help partners develop solutions to this problem. This interactive workshop will include a brief tour of a trash trap on the creek, an overview of the trash tracking data process, and hands-on activities for you to explore and share your solutions to reduce trash across the community and keep it out of the creek.
