Your philanthropic support will help us to nurture our existing community of science enthusiasts and grow a new generation who recognizes themselves as lifelong science learners with an awareness that they know about, use and contribute to science in their daily lives. Not bound by the walls of a school or museum, Atlanta Science Festival works to infuse science into familiar and unexpected places to broaden the availability and relatability of science, technology, engineering and math subjects for all Atlantans.
Broadening Access: ASF is broadening access to STEM learning and careers. For the past five years, the Atlanta Science Festival audience has closely matched the racial/ethnic diversity in metro Atlanta, is 60% female, and comes from 300+ unique zip codes throughout Georgia. More than 2/3 of our events are free. We will continue to provide bus vouchers to schools and groups serving economically disadvantaged students to attend events including the Festival’s Exploration Expo.
Support for ASF helps to extend, enhance and supplement STEM learning opportunities across Atlanta. Having watched nearly 200,000 people pass through Atlanta Science Festival events over the last five years, we have seen and heard first-hand how access to engaging science programming inspires youth and adults – particularly those from under-represented backgrounds. We have witnessed how interactions between scientists and non-scientists reverse stereotypes about who STEM professionals are and who can become one. We have seen how exposure to the central role STEM subjects play in our daily lives helps broaden career possibilities and influence choices that determine the health and prosperity of individuals, families, and communities. Public Engagement: Sponsors can help shape science learning throughout our community and develop our workforce in STEM-related fields by engaging with the public in a range of events, programs and activities throughout the year. We can work with your team to identify opportunities for employee engagement in the community, including best practices for engaging, hands-on programming that calls attention to the role of science and technology in your products and services.
Brand Exposure: A primary goal of Atlanta Science Festival is to showcase the many science-, technology-, engineering-, and mathematics-related contributions and learning/career opportunities already available through your organization. With a strong social media following (more than 21,000 followers) and public relations activity (122 media hits in 2018), we are well positioned to share all that your organization is doing to enhance science literacy, education, and STEM workforce development in our region.
Strengthening Talent: ASF is committed to advancing the existing scientific research community by offering programming and consulting services aimed to better equip researchers to communicate and engage with public audiences. One of the obstacles to increasing science literacy is the lack of focus on scientists’ skills and opportunities to share new research and innovation with public audiences. ASF staff helps bridge this communication and programming gap, which too often alienates audiences and reinforces the barriers to entry for both youth and adults.
