Lessons
The Atlanta Science Festival encourages real-world problem solving in the classroom. By building the capacity of students to apply creativity, perseverence, leadership and teamwork alongside STEM conceptual understanding, we prepare students to address tomorrow’s challenges. Here are several lesson plans that incorporate engineering design challenges and review key science concepts for the end of the year.
- Kindergarten – Physical Properties, Gravity. Humpty Dumpty. [Student Journal PPT]
- 1st grade – Weather. A Windy Day.
- 2nd grade – Bridge Building. Three Billy Goat’s Gruff Engineering.
- 3rd grade – Heat Energy. How do you keep an ice cube from melting?: The Penguin Problem
- 4th grade – Seed Engineering
- 5th or 6th grade – Protecting Our City With Levees.
- 5th or 8th grade – Physical Science, electricity, magnetism. Scribble Bots.
- 6th or 7th grade – fossils in sedimentary rocks. Evidence of Plate Tectonics (or Evolution).
