Science Scavenger Hunt

Presented by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs

Journey along the trails of Mason Mill Park in search of special plants, rocks, and other nature features. Take a pleasant hike through this peaceful in-town forest, solve riddles, learn about the natural world, and win a prize!

On this scavenger hunt, you will not be gathering items, but instead using the scientific method to solve riddles, complete activities, and obtain clues that allow you to visit seven stations along the Trails of Mason Mill.

Things you need:
Ability to walk 1.5 miles, up and down uneven stairs and on single-track dirt trails.
Smartphone that can scan QR codes.
Access the internet on your smartphone to do web searches, complete online forms, and take and send photos via text or email.
A curious mind that can solve riddles and answer observation-based questions. 1.5 – 2 hours to complete the hunt.

Recommended:
Pick up a trail map from the trail information kiosk at the beginning of your hike.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.
Bring water and a snack.

Not recommended: Strollers, wheelchairs, bicycles, or scooters because STATIONS #5-7 are only accessible on dirt trails.

This event repeats daily during daylight hours for the duration of the festival.
