Computer hacking, AI, giant lasers, and time travel? Sign us up! Join the Alliance Theatre for a special showing of The Many Wondrous Realities of Jasmine Starr-Kidd, the heartwarming story of second chances and learning that sometimes the things you can't change are the things that should have happened all along.
Following the show, dissect the science behind these concepts with Physicist, Justin Burton!
Justin Burton obtained his B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Cincinnati in 2001 and his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of California, Irvine in 2006. After postdoctoral positions at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Chicago, he joined the Department of Physics at Emory University in 2013, where he is now an Associate Professor of Physics. His interdisciplinary research program is primarily experimental and covers a wide variety of topics focused on complex and nonequilibrium systems. Current projects include interfacial and nanoscale fluid dynamics, disordered and granular materials, machine learning of many-body dynamics in dusty plasmas, and the physics of tidewater glaciers. He is a past recipient of the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award, an Arthur Compton lecturer at the University of Chicago, an ARCS Orange County Scholar, a member of the Editorial Board for Physical Review Research, and leads a number of K-12 STEM outreach and education activities in the Atlanta area.
