Geocaching Adventure

Presented by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs

Hidden treasure boxes in the woods? Sign me up! Geocaching is a treasure-hunting game in which participants use GPS technology to find containers called "caches" at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world. You'll never know what you'll find in these secret treasure boxes!
DeKalb County’s Ranger Jonah and several dedicated geocaching enthusiasts have designed two scavenger hunts for you to seek within the forests of Mason Mill, Medlock, and Ira B. Melton Parks. First, a series of geocaches are hidden throughout the park. Second, two Adventure Labs that, once completed, will unlock the location of a bonus geocache for you to find. These scavenger hunts will help you explore the park, learn to use latitude & longitude, and introduce you to locations of scientific and historic importance in the forest.
This program is self-guided. Download instructions here or pick up an instruction sheet at the PATH trailhead in Mason Mill Park.

Before you arrive:
Download two free apps published by Groundspeak, Inc.: (1) Geocaching and (2) Adventure Lab.
Create a username to be used on both apps.
Be sure to allow both apps to use your location when you are using the app. This adventure will not work otherwise.
Participants who find and log at least 5 geocaches at Mason Mill/Medlock/Melton and complete at least one Adventure Lab can take home a special coin (while supplies last), hidden in undisclosed caches throughout the park.
Please note this opportunity is available daily during daylight hours for the duration of the Festival.
