2019 Festival Event:

Bitter Spirits

SOLD OUT.

Apéritifs? Digestifs? Amaros? Ever wonder what these concoctions have in common and why we drink them before and after meals? Join Christi Hansen, registered dietician and organic vegetable farmer, for a deep dive into the digestive system and which aromatic and bitter plants grease its wheels. You'll learn the basics of making delicious bitters and take home your own elixirs made from a variety of fresh and foraged ingredients.
Free parking is available on site.

Driving Directions:
1. From S. Columbia Dr., turn into the main entrance of Legacy Park. You will see a brick building with white columns directly in front of you as you enter a small roundabout.
2. Turn right and follow the curve around towards the left. You will be on the right side of the brick building if you are facing it from the street.
3. Make your first left, as the road winds back towards the right.
4. Turn right again and follow the road. There will be a swimming pool and soccer field to your left.
5. At the end of this road just beyond the soccer field, turn left onto a dirt road.
6. Follow the dirt road until you see a sign that reads “No Vehicles Beyond This Point.” Do not go beyond that point. Park on the grass.
(Sometimes during soccer games, there will be many cars parked here.)

To the Garden:
1. From the parking area, walk past the “No Vehicles” sign towards the stone barn. The soccer field will be on your left. You will see a beautiful pond ahead on your right.
2. Walk past the stone barn, cross the gravel/dirt road.
3. Stop for a moment and take in the beauty of the place and imagine it as a large working farm, as it was up until the 1960s.
4. Continue straight towards the entrance to the garden, through the break in the trees.
5. Visitors and volunteer groups should meet Global Growers staff at the entrance to the garden, near the Decatur’s Kitchen Garden sign.

Remember: There is no such thing as bad weather – just inappropriate clothing! If it’s raining or has rained recently, the garden is probably wet and muddy.
