The Science of “Motherese” – Early Vocal Development in Infants and Caregivers

Adults speak differently to kids than they do to other adults with a special vocal register researchers call "motherese". Science has show that this type of speech contains many active ingredients that stimulate social interaction between infant and caregiver, and scaffold the development of speech in the child. Join Emory's Dr. Gordon Ramsay to learn about the physics of voice production in infants and adults, the key developmental milestones in communication, and how these milestones differ when a child is autistic or deaf.​
